All great adventures are usually begun by the dreams becoming realities, or in some cases even jumping off into the deep end of the pool. The adventures encompassed within and beyond, covering the next (predominantly) two continents, will more then likely have similar language and depth content to what was had in my previous, considerably lengthy, blog of the North Americas. If the inkling ever comes across oneself to want to read it, then by all means click on the link on the side, the same goes for the picture albums and other useful (at the time) links.
It came about being a strange situation with the trip organising to Africa and Europe, this is due to the desire of Africa was always to be present but the exact timing of it was never considered to be something so recent. There has always been a desire to see the mysterious continent, with apparently so many secrets raveled in it. I suppose for the average Australian, our lives are laid out so simply in front of us for both the short term and long term. One fortunate thing about Australia (as well as the majority of the North American countries) is that our language is being spoken throughout the rest of the continent. Even better for the Australians is the fact that those who do not work will have some kind of support, typically from the government.
The mysteries of an entire continent could not be resolved in one trip, especially when to discover mysteries one should displace themselves into the geographic region for a good period of time (like the American who learnt a local language in Upper Volta/ Burkina Faso for approximately 10 years and still knows it 30 years on). Unfortunately, everyone has different needs and desires in their short existence. So to be able to learn a few essentials of many languages would be one of my own desires… lets see how that all goes. With not only so many countries, but also thousands of languages, dozens of formations infinite culture and, unlike most continents, in the northern and southern hemisphere who would want to skip this continent at all. From items like the Table Top Mountains, up to the Delta of the Nile, the sights of Mt Kilimanjaro, the unforgiving forests of the Congo and the minerals of the west, these are the things that we should all only be so familiar with, but what about the opportunity to be able to speak to a native of the lands in their own tongue, or to sit in the midst of solitude and have nature encompass you as one with all that it bears, even having the chance of eating something that you know would never touch your plate back home.
If you know this is something you wish to explore, then you have taken the first step but there are many more and if you are anything like me you would like to take these steps running, long and fast.
Welcome to my Africa.
